The Canada International Film Festival (CIFF) takes place annually at a casino in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The film festival was founded by Las Vegas businessman Rick Weisner and now owned by Monty Lapica. The festival receives thousands of entries each year. More than 90 countries have been represented at the festival. The winners of the festival's awards are chosen by a jury. ==Recent award winners== ''Shadows of the Past'', a film about Australian rodeo, was an official finalist at the 2009 festival. In 2010, ''Land Gold Women'' won the festival's Royal Reel Award, as did John Alfred Longlott's ''First Love''. ''Life Somewhere'', directed by Mithun Chakraborty's son Ushmey Chakraborty, was named Best Feature Film at the 2011 festival while Irish film ''Paperman'' won the award for Best Animation. Documentary film ''If I Should Fall'' was granted an award of excellence that year. In 2012, the festival's Rising Star Award went to ''Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story''. The Royal Reel Award for the Best feature film went to ''Life! Camera Action...'' directed by Rohit Gupta.
